» 11/04/09 - H1N1 Flu Vaccine Update

Tehama County released 1,000 doses of H1N1 Flu vaccine Injectable to Lassen Medical Group. We are expecting the shipment this afternoon or tomorrow morning. The Tehama County target categories are as follows:

H1N1 (Swine) Flu vaccine should go first to those in groups who are at highest risk for more severe disease.

  • • Pregnant women
  • • Persons who live with or provide care for infants less than 6 months old (e.g., parents, siblings and childcare providers)
  • • Health care and emergency services personnel who have direct contact with patients or infectious material (LMG staff will be scheduled for H1N1 accordingly)
  • • Children age 6 months to 4 years
  • • Children and adolescents aged 5-18 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza related complications such as:
    • - Heart Disease
    • - Metabolic disease such as diabetes
    • - Obesity
    • - Asthma
    • - Anemia and other blood disorders
    • - Lung disease
    • - Kidney or liver disease

Guidlines

» Please refer to and click the image at the top of this news story for H1N1 & Seasonal Flu vaccine administration for what combinations are okay.

» If a patient has had a confirmed case of H1N1 it is recommended they recieve the vaccine.

» If the patient has recently taken or is currently on Tamiflu the patient can receive the H1N1 injectable flu vaccine.

» If a patient is presenting for an H1N1 vaccine and is ill, the patient needs to see a provider for approval.

» If a patient is requesting other vaccinations at the time of the H1N1 vaccine prior approval is required by their provider.

» County Health will be vaccinating at the schools in the near future.

No other immunizations will be given during the Saturday clinic.

If a patient is presenting for an H1N1 vaccine and is ill, the patient needs to see a provider for approval. We are also anticipating an H1N1 Flu vaccine clinic during the week if the supply is available
